The dynamics of IPL have now changed due to the introduction of the Impact Player concept. In the recent auctions, we have seen franchises going hard for a player who is eventually used only as an Impact Player. Similarly, we can expect some of the expensive players of IPL 2024 Auctions to have the same fate. Here, we take a look at three big-money signings at IPL 2024 Auctions who could be used only as Impact Player.
1) Umesh Yadav – Gujarat Titans
With Hardik Pandya and Yash Dayal gone, GT has to find a good new-ball partner for Mohammed Shami. The likes of Josh Little and Spencer Johnson could be too raw for this. Therefore, Umesh Yadav will have a big role to play next season.
That said, after the powerplay, Umesh Yadav might not even be needed by the side. Hence, he could go and someone like Kartik Tyagi could come in to bowl in the other phases of the game.
2) Rovman Powell – Rajasthan Royals
Jos Buttler, Shimron Hetmyer and Trent Boult will all be a part of the XI. With the arrival of Avesh Khan, RR might not need an extra foreigner with the ball. Hence, Rovman Powell could be substituted out when RR is bowling. He always does not offer good bowling services.
When RR comes back to bat or if they are batting first, Rovman would play at No.6. This will give the right depth and balance to the side.
3) Sameer Rizvi – Chennai Super Kings
Sameer Rizvi is one of the big-money signings at IPL 2024 Auctions who could be used only as an Impact Player. Ambati Rayudu was mostly used as an Impact Player last season. Sameer Rizvi could be his direct replacement.
Ajinkya Rahane is needed on the field while Shivam Dube could also be preferred in case his bowling is needed. Yes, Sameer bowls off-break but CSK might not be too reliant on this. Hence, Sameer is on this list.
