With MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, it is becoming certain that MSD might retire after IPL 2024. As per reports, there will be a mega auction before IPL 2025. Hence, CSK has to retain a player in MS Dhoni’s place. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to be two sure retentions. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players whom CSK could retain instead of MS Dhoni for IPL 2025.
1) Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube is someone who is very versatile and ticks many boxes as a cricketer. He is a quality middle-order batter and a left-hander at that. He is excellent against spin and this is the right profile for a player who will play seven games every year at Chepauk.
Plus, on his day, Shivam can do well with the ball. This is a skill he can always further develop. Hence, CSK could consider retaining him.
2) Sameer Rizvi
Sameer Rizvi is one of the players whom CSK could retain instead of MS Dhoni for IPL 2025. He is one of the next superstars of Indian cricket.
CSK will want a new starboy and Sameer is capable of becoming that. A top-class middle-order batter who is good against spin, Sameer can also bowl some spin. Since he is likely to be an uncapped player by the end of this year, it is an advantage for CSK.
3) Rachin Ravindra
Before the last Mega Auction, CSK had retained Moeen Ali as the foreigner. This time, if Rachin Ravindra plays well in IPL 2024, the Kiwi could be retained.
Rachin has age on his side and is one of the generational talents at the moment. He can open the batting and even play at No.3. Plus, he is a good left-arm spinner, which would always be useful in Chepauk. Therefore, he is on this list.
