Twitter Erupts As Kartik Tyagi Delivered A Brilliant Last Over And Defended Four Runs

Rajasthan Royals managed a lucky escape

Kartik Tyagi bowls a magical over to deny Punjab: Fans had to wait for a couple of lackluster nights for the actual spice of IPL to come out as Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings played out a thriller which eventually turned out into a shocker for the latter in the final over of the game.

Batting first, the Royals were off to an absolute blinder as openers Evin Lewis and Yashashvi Jaiswal belted out a searing partnership to set the tone for the Royals. It was Arshdeep Singh who got the better of Evin Lewis and in very short succession, Ishan Porel managed to best Royals’ skipper, Sanju Samson with a brilliant mix of pace.

However, Liam Livingstone and Jaiswal played out another decent partnership amongst themselves to set the platform for a later show of pyrotechnics. Mahipal Lomror set the stage ablaze with an extraordinary brand of hammering that saw him garnering 43 runs from 16 balls, starring two fours and four sixes.

The fall of Lomror, however, instigated a batting collapse that brought down Rajasthan Royals from 166 for the loss of 4 to 185 all out. Arshdeep Singh managed to claim a fifer while Shami bagged three wickets to keep Punjab in the hunt.

The way Punjab Kings started batting, it was clear that Rajasthan will not be standing any chance. Rahul and Mayank charmed their way to a blistering 120 runs stand and after the duo fell, Nicolas Pooran and Aiden Markram guided them to relative safety with the team needing eight runs off the last two overs.

Mustafizur Rahman bowled an excellent 19th over to only concede four runs from it with Kartik Tyagi being shouldered the onus of bowling the final over that everyone thought was just a formality.

Kartik Tyagi bowled an excellent over to create history

He started with a low full toss at Markram who could only hit it till the covers. The following delivery was another fuller one that saw the South African batsman steal away a quick single.

The next delivery from Tyagi caught a thin edge off Nicholas Pooran’s bat who was planning to just glide it down the third-man and flew to the safe arms of Samson. Tyagi backed this up with a fuller delivery wide on the off-stump as Hooda couldn’t manage to steal anything from it.

Tyagi maintained a similar line as he bowled wide outside the off-stump again with a much-fuller delivery and Hooda nicked it to Samson. From what seemed like a formality to Royals shortly evolved into a full-blown victory for them as Tyagi bowled another dot ball to script a remarkable victory from the jaws of sheer defeat.
