Suresh Raina still happens to be the perfect template for a batter, especially in the IPL. While he got the volume of runs, at the same time, he ensured that these runs were impactful and were scored at a good rate. CSK will find it hard to replace the cricketer at No.3. However, they do have a few options that can at least come close to replacing the legend. On that note, here, we take a look at two players who could be the next Suresh Raina for Chennai Super Kings.
1) Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes can be the future No.3 for Chennai Super Kings. In IPL 2023, so far, he is yet to get going and has also missed a few matches due to injury. However, he is an elite cricketer and would be an ideal fit at No.3.
Stokes does have his issues against spin but he has got skills to compensate for that against pace. On top of this, Stokes is also a good fielder and has leadership skills. He would also give a few overs with the ball, just like Suresh Raina used to do at his peak.
2) Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube is one of the players who could be the next Suresh Raina for the Chennai Super Kings. When he is on a song, it is hard to stop the Mumbai all-rounder. Against pace, he has some problems but anything slower and Dube can muscle his way to big scores.
When it comes to the role that a No.3 batter should have, Shivam Dube seems a good fit. Unless the bowlers trouble him, Dube is known to just take one route and that is taking on the bowlers. Currently, Dube is 29 years old and CSK can invest in him in the near future. If he can address a few technical issues, he would be a great asset to the franchise.
