ICC T20 World Cup 2022 Indian Cricket Team Squad: Predicting the spinners for the tournament

The performance of the Indian spinners in Asia Cup 2022 was not up to the expectations at all

One of the main reasons why India couldn’t get to the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 is because the spinners couldn’t perform up to the expectations at all in the super 4 round and the form of some of the leading spinners of the team has now become a matter of concern for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.

With Ravindra Jadeja appearing to be out of the scheme of things now for the T20 World Cup because of his knee surgery, the only spinner whose spot seems certain in the T20 World Cup squad at this point in time is Yuzvendra Chahal.

Although barring one game against Sri Lanka, Chahal’s performance in the Asia Cup was questionable as well, but since India has invested a lot in him and has played him a lot in the lead-up to the World Cup, he might be the first spinner on the team sheet when the selectors finalize the squad for the World Cup.

But, India won’t go into the World Cup with just one spinner in the squad, even though the fast bowlers will have a bigger role to play in Australia as compared to the spinners. Apart from Chahal, Indian selectors are likely to pick one more specialist spinner and a spin bowling allrounder.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel also seem to be in contention for T20 World Cup 2022

Given the fact that India didn’t give Ravi Bishnoi another opportunity in the Asia Cup despite him performing well in the super 4 games against Pakistan, it suggests he might not be getting considered for the T20 World Cup, and India might be considering the off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin because of his experience.

In the absence of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel is the leading contender for the spin bowling allrounder’s slot, but if India decides to go with an extra batsman, then they might just consider Deepak Hooda as the spin bowling allrounder in the squad and Axar might be left out for someone like Sanju Samson.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
