Cricket West Indies and Caribbean Premier League made a grand announcement earlier today as they launched the 6ixty tournament. It is a new T10 league which will see six men’s teams and three women’s teams in action from August 24 to 28 in St. Kitts.
T10 leagues are not new to the cricket fans, but the rules of this tournament may amaze some fans. In 6ixty, the batting team will get a powerplay of two overs at the beginning, where there will be fielding restrictions.
If the batting team manages to hit two sixes in the first two overs, then they will get a powerplay of one extra over, which will be called the floating third-over powerplay. They will not get that powerplay over if they fail to hit two sixes in the first two overs.
Also, there will be no change of ends after every over. The ends will change at the completion of the fifth over, meaning five overs will be bowled from one end and the final five overs will be bowled from another end. Interestingly, the batting team will not have 10 wickets in this game, as the number of maximum wickets is six.
