We have seen many articles pertaining to IPL franchises having cricketers from their home state. A few of them such as Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and Dinesh Karthik are yet to represent the franchise from their home state. Similarly, there could also be a theory of Head Coaches from the same state of the franchise. Of course, home conditions are known well to them and they can work around it. On that note, here, we take a look at the IPL Head Coaches if teams had to hire coaches from the home state of the franchise.
Chennai Super Kings – Hemang Badani
Tamil Nadu does not have a lot many coaches doing well at the national level. Robin Singh played for Tamil Nadu but he is never associated with the culture of the state. Hemang Badani has done well in TNPL and also holds a vital position in Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hence, he is on this list.
Delhi Capitals – Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra would be the obvious choice for DC when it comes to IPL Head Coaches if teams had to hire coaches from the home state of the franchise. No surprises here, as Ashish Nehra would be a top option. He could as well help DC recover from the current poor state that they are in.
Gujarat Titans – Irfan Pathan
Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra have not given a lot of coaches recently. Irfan Pathan has an eye for talent and has done the role at Jammu & Kashmir. Hence, he finds a place here.
Lucknow Super Giants – Mohammed Kaif
Mohammed Kaif was once the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals. Since the likes of Suresh Raina are yet to take up coaching, for now, we have Kaif as the Head Coach of LSG.
Mumbai Indians – Chandrakant Pandit
Chandrakant Pandit would suit Mumbai Indians when it comes to IPL Head Coaches if teams had to hire coaches from the home state of the franchise. MI would have a lot of options such as Ravi Shastri, Pravin Amre and Sanjay Bangar. However, they could go with Mr Pandit, who is the current coach of KKR and has won titles at the domestic level.
Punjab Kings – Vikram Rathour
PBKS may not have a lot of options in this regard, unless someone like Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh becomes a coach in the future. Having been the batting coach of Team India for a while, Vikram can take the promotion to become the Head Coach of an IPL unit.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Laxmi Ratan Shukla
Sourav Ganguly has not coached a side till now and hence, he does not make it to the list here. Instead, we have Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who is doing a decent job at the helm for West Bengal.
Rajasthan Royals – Dishant Yagnik
RR does not have many options. Hence, when it comes to IPL Head Coaches if teams had to hire coaches from the home state of the franchise, Yagnik would be a decent fit. He anyways has experience coaching sides at different levels and is also a part of the RR backroom staff right now.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Rahul Dravid
Considering Rahul Dravid is the current coach of Team India, he would come in here. Alternatively, they can also hire Anil Kumble, who until recently was an IPL Head Coach.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – VVS Laxman
SRH already had VVS Laxman once doing the role of a mentor. VVS has coached India after his recent role as the NCA Head. Hence, he would be the straight choice for SRH.
