The long wait for Lionel Messi to lift a World Cup was finally over as Argentina emerged as the champions of the world, pipping a valiant France in the tie-breaker after both the teams finished at 3-3 after 120 minutes
Once Argentina reached the final, Lionel Messi announced that this was going to be his last international game and the entire world waited at his feet, hoping for the Little Magician to deliver. It was in 2006 when Messi started his journey in the Football World Cup.
Argentina did every possible thing in their control to stave away the Germans in the aforementioned game but a late equalizer from David Odonkor of Germany opened up the gates and Argentina eventually crashed out.
In 2010, it was another German powerclass that routed the Argentine forces after the former ran absolute riots to peg the Men in Blue and White however, it was an absolute Messi classic that saw Argentina reaching the finals of the forthcoming World Cup.
Here is what Twitter had to say about Lionel Messi
Much to the woes of the Albaceleste, a goal from Marco Reus shattered their 2014 dreams while 2018 saw France emerging victorious after a thunderous effort from Pavard and Kylian Mbappe’s late flourish saw them crashing out of the tournament.
Finally in 2022, finishing a wait of 16 years, Lionel Messi stepped up on the biggest of occasions by scoring the first goal from the spot and then later securing the all-important lead in the extra time and also converting the penalty in the tie-breaker. The entire world bowed down as the maestro chose to give up his mantle. Twitter absolutely loved Messi’s heroics and didn’t leave a stone unturned in attempt to praise the all-encompassing Argentine wizard.
