The former South African captain AB de Villiers, who is regarded as one of the greatest white ball batsmen of all time, is of the view that the new CSA T20 league will prove to be a “game changer” in the long run for cricket in South Africa.
The Six teams in the CSA T20 league are all owned by the IPL team owners, including the owners of the two most successful teams Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
The other IPL team owners who have bought the franchise ownership rights in the CSA league are the owners of Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
After CSA confirmed the name of the owners earlier today, AB de Villiers put out a tweet where he said that the real effects of this league and how it benefits the game of cricket in South Africa at all levels will only be seen in 5-10 years’ time.
Graeme Smith has been appointed the commissioner of the CSA T20 league
De Villiers also praised his former captain and teammate Graeme Smith for putting in a lot of hard work involving the logistics of the process of buying the ownership rights and setting up the whole league itself. Smith has recently been unveiled as the new commissioner of the CSA T20 league.
The names of the teams haven’t been revealed by the owners yet, but it is expected that the names will be on the lines of the IPL teams and just the names of the venues will be changed so that the brand that has been created by the owners through the IPL can be further enhanced through the CSA T20 league.
AB de Villiers, however, is not likely to play in the league as he has already retired from all forms of the game and didn’t even play in the IPL in the previous season.
INCREDIBLY good and important move for Cricket in South Africa! We’ll only know the real impact 5-10 years from now, but I can tell u right now it’s a game changer of note.
Needless to say, only one man could have pulled this off! Congrats, and thank you @GraemeSmith49 !!! https://t.co/4b66hNIGp8
