India is currently locking horns with Sri Lanka in the T20I series. The hosts have already taken a 1-0 lead in the series after their 2-run win in the first game. The second game is now slated to take place on Thursday (5th January). However, ahead of the game, the Hardik Pandya-led side has suffered a blow.
Keeper batter Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the series with a knee injury. The right-hander injured himself while fielding in the first game near the boundary rope, following which he was looking uncomfortable.
Samson didn’t travel with the team to Pune for the second game as he was feeling some discomfort in his knee and stayed back in Mumbai for scans. He now has been advised to rest and rehabilitation by the medical team.
Samson wasn’t at his best in the first game as he scored just 5 runs in 6 balls and looked scratchy all through his innings. The three-match series would’ve been a perfect opportunity for him to reclaim his stake in the side after being out for a while but his injury shattered his hopes.
In his place, the BCCI has added Vidarbha and Punjab Kings (PBKS) wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma to the squad. The young batter was one of the exciting players in the IPL 2022 and also has been scorings runs in the domestic circuit.
