The semi-final between Pakistan and New Zealand took place at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). It was a game that the Men in Green assert their authority and send a strong message to the world.
Asked to bowl first, it was a perfect start for them as Shaheen Afridi removed dangerous Fin Allen for just 4 runs in the first over to set the tone for his side. After that, they displayed a staggering effort in the field as well as Shadab Khan sent Devon Conway packing for 28 runs with the gun throw at the non-striker’s end.
Skipper Kane Williamson (46) and Daryll Mitchell (53) then played decent knocks for their side to ensure that New Zealand cross the 150-run mark. A superlative bowling effort helped Pakistan restrict the opposition to a total of just 152 runs on the board.
Chasing the target, it was the biggest positive for Pakistan as both Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam returned to form and smashed a 105-run partnership before Trent Boult removed the skipper for 53 runs and his partner for 57 runs.
