Out of all the iconic rivalries that grace football, if there is one that has lived life to its fullest potential in the last decade, that has been the hallowed one of El Clasico. Spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Real Madrid and Barcelona have ruled the footballing world and set expectations that blew through the roof.
Much to everyone’s shocker, when the giants left, the teams had a lot to ponder about with their individual capabilities, especially with Barcelona as they looked like a bunch of clueless individuals trying to fix a problem that has festered beyond saving.
However, every problem has a solution and despite not really finishing things in the way they should have been, the arrival of Xavi as the preceptor of the Catalans arrested the immediate decline and instilled hopes at Camp Nou.
Real Madrid, however, was a totally changed side and the way they dictated proceedings across Spain and Europe was nothing of a footballing marvel. Their triumph in the UCL was one penned in the heavens that saw them slaying giants in situations that would surely get the last year’s playing lot a place in the footballing folklore.
With all said and done, it is already a new season and Real Madrid will be hoping to replicate the success that they produced in the preceding year, spearheaded by a seasoned and famished Karim Benzema. The inclusion of Eduardo Camavinga brought about an ocean of changes that were highly reflective of their playing style.
Barcelona made some amendments of their own that saw them landing Ferran Torres, Franck Kessie, and most importantly the Polish marksman, Robert Lewandowski. As the new trifecta arrived at Camp Nou, the hopes started blowing through the roof and as the pre-season has already been doing the rounds, let’s just hope that we are in for another exciting affair with the two juggernauts blowing friendly haymakers at each other.
