“We will do it, Machi. Don’t worry”, Shreyas Iyer reveals R Ashwin’s words when he came to bat in the partnership that won the Test against Bangladesh

In the second Test against Bangladesh, if not for Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin, India would have lost the game. While R Ashwin spoke of the partnership, Iyer also recently spilt his experiences about the game. Here, we take a look as Shreyas Iyer reveals R Ashwin’s words when he came to bat in the partnership that won the Test against Bangladesh.

A partnership for the ages

Having lost all the main wickets, India was in a spot in bother chasing an achievable score against Bangladesh in the second Test. Losing this game would have made things difficult for India in the World Test Championship table. At the same time, it would have been an embarrassing loss for the men in blue against Bangladesh, chasing a score that a team like India must always chase.

However, Shreyas Iyer and R Ashwin stitched a wonderful partnership that helped India cross the line. It was the last recognized batting partnership and hence, it was vital for the duo to stay at the crease. They were cautious at the start but once they got the hold of the pitch, the duo started to play their shots. Bangladesh wilted under pressure and India’s attack became even stronger in the end. Therefore, India won the game without no other hiccups.

Shreyas Iyer reveals R Ashwin’s words

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer revealed that the Indian off-spinner was confident when he came to the crease. Iyer said, “I always love the confidence of Ashwin, when he came to bat in the chase, he told ‘We will do it, Machi. Don’t worry’.”

Ashwin is a calm mind and this was not the first time that he has proved it. Against Pakistan in the first game of the 2022 T20 World Cup, he hit a four when he was under pressure. This shows the nerves of steel that Ashwin possesses. India would hope for a similar show from the veteran against Australia in Feb-March.
