After winning the first ODI in a nail-biter, New Zealand won the second ODI in a close game to win the series 2-0. They won with three wickets to spare, giving them a lead that can’t be taken away. Michael Bracewell was named “Player of the Match” for the second game in a row after he once again saved the Kiwis with his bat.
In the first two balls of New Zealand’s chase for 217 runs, they lost two wickets. Finn Allen and their captain, Tom Latham, then hit the 50s to get them back in the game.
But New Zealand lost wickets several times during the chase. Bracewell’s unbeaten 42 off 40 balls got them to the finish line in 38.1 overs, which was enough to win the series.
Ireland fought for the wickets and had the other team in trouble early on. Mark Adair and Simi Singh each took two wickets, but the hosts couldn’t salvage anything because they didn’t have enough runs.
Their batting failed them, and they were only able to score 216 runs before they were all-out. At one point, they lost six wickets and were down to 126. With George Dockrell’s amazing 74 off of 61 balls, they went over the 200-run mark.
New Zealand will try to win all three ODIs, but Ireland will want to win the last one to save face.
