SRH coach Trevor Bayliss reflects on decision to drop David Warner

It has been a heart-breaking tournament for David Warner so far. The Sunrisers Hyderabad management decided to sack him from the captaincy during the middle of the tournament. To make the situation even worse, he was even dropped from the playing XI for their fixture against the Rajasthan Royals side.

The Australian opener has remained the cornerstone for the Orange Army in the past. Under his leadership, the side lifted the 2016 Indian Premier League Trophy. This year, the player has so far showcased his average form accumulating 193 runs in 6 matches.

Under his captaincy, the side managed to win only 1 out of 6 games in this year’s IPL. Hence, the side decided to take some harsh call on this. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s coach Trevor Bayliss recently gave a hint about his future in the side for this edition. Bayliss, in a chat with the host broadcaster, stated:

“Difficult decision, big decision but we wanted to try and change the makeup of the team. We have gone with Nabi in this game. Someone like Jason Holder in that middle order will help our pace bowling as well. We want to stick with the same team, rather than dropping players from one or two matches”.

Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled in the absence of David Warner

The side wants to stick to their thumb rule of playing two batsmen, one all-rounder and Rashid Khan, for their four overseas slots. Following the magnificent form of Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson, the side had to take down David Warner from the line-up.

SRH has only played one match under Williamson’s leadership, which resulted in a loss. The franchise is currently holding the last position on the points table with just 2 points by their name. Their next fixture is against the Mumbai Indians on 4th May at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
