Ramiz Raja gets fired as PCB Chairman
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday (21st December) fired Ramiz Raja as the chairman of the board. The development came after the Babar Azam-led side suffered a humiliating 3-0 whitewash in the Test series against England at home.
This was Pakistan’s second series loss at home this year after losing to Australia earlier this year. Not only for the performance of the team, but Raja came under scanner for the kind of pitches they prepared for the Tests against England.
He faced a lot of criticism for preparing road-like pitches. The PCB has now appointed Najam Sethi as the new chairman and it is learned that PM Shehbaz Sharif on approved his appointment as the new PCB chairman.
Ramiz Raja was appointed as the chairman of PCB by then PM Imran Khan in 2021. It’s fair to say that since he took the charge, he brought many changes to the cricket system in Pakistan. Under his tenure, the team become a dominant force in all three formats of the game with their most special victory coming against arch-rivals India in the T20 World Cup 2021.

But of late they have been underperforming. They suffered defeat against Zimbabwe and India T20 World Cup 2022 and also lost the final. There was criticism related to selection as well, which many feel was the main reason behind their poor campaign.
