‘Rohit Sharma or Shardul Thakur?’, Twitter picks Man of the Match for The Oval Test

India claims historic win at the Oval

Twitter got divided after the man of the match award was handed over to Rohit Sharma at the end of the fourth Test as they wholeheartedly wanted Shardul Thakur to be given the award.

India chronicled a historical victory as they outstripped England on the fifth day of the penultimate Test match of the series. Indian fast bowlers wreaked havoc, with Jadeja chiming in with his share to dismantle England from 100 for no loss to 209 all out.

The fuss on Twitter

The debate that raged across Twitter was about the pick of the man of the match. Sharma was adjudged as the man of the match for his blistering ton in the second innings.

However, the fans weren’t happy about this decision because according to them if one man deserved it more than the others, it was solely Shardul Thakur.

Shardul Thakur put in a brilliant performance

Thakur chipped with a fiery 57 in the first innings and claimed the big wicket of Joe Root. He shone with the bat again as he belted out a brilliant 60 in the second innings to help India reach 466.

He proved to be very crucial for India in the second innings with the ball as he bagged the big wickets of a set Rory Burns and Joe Root to leave England reeling in the wake of his destruction.

This was Thakur’s second shy at prominence, as the first came in front of Australia, ushering India to a remarkable victory and a series triumph Down Under. Thakur contributed both with the bat and the ball and came back with an even more impactful performance against England to help India claim this historic win.

Twitter was vocal about how Shardul should have been given the man of the match award for his match-defining impact in all the four innings of the game.
