Premier League 2022-23: MUN vs LIV: Preview, teams’ recent form, probable playing XI, captaincy picks and who will win

MUN vs LIV: Manchester United has been off to a rollercoaster start to the latest season of the Premier League where they were drubbed by a meek Brighton in the opener while their woes compounded with Brighton running riot, leaving the United defence in absolute shambles.

Liverpool, on the contrary, have bagged a couple of points from their two opening fixtures but the start that they have wanted is a million miles away from the one that they have procured. They started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Fulham while the depleted Reds couldn’t get the better of Crystal Palace either.

With all said and done, if we tend to look back at the glittering antiquity of Premier League football, this is undoubtedly one of the most iconic rivalries of all time. However, the amount of vitriol and scathing animosity these two clubs share, it is needless to say that irrespective of any history at all, both the teams will be baring out their arsenal.

Going by their recent form, Liverpool is undoubtedly the favourite to win against Manchester in the upcoming contest but a few dynamics of late can make this an encounter to savour between the two English stalwarts. Manchester United will need a good deal of work done in the center-back pair which has no clarity about who should be starting. A probable Varane-Maguire duo may be on the cards or if the rumours are to be believed, ten Hag may go for a 3-man defence which may sound suicidal if the chemistry doesn’t click.

The defensive midfield pair of McFred has been the most disgruntled duo in the midfield in any of the Premier League clubs at the moment. With the arrival of Casemiro, the equation is about to change from the following week, however, for the forthcoming contest a lot will rely on Lisandor Martinez to ne deployed as a CDM given his inability to play the full-back, especially with a questionable height.

Liverpool’s attacking third has seemed a lot more toothless in the first couple of matches with too much profligacy marring the giants’ ability to score as much as they should have. Despite all the huffing and puffing by Egyptian marksman, Mohammed Salah, the results have been pretty much on the lower side.

They will also be coming to this contest without Darwin Nunez who was given marching orders in Liverpool’s last match-up against Crystal Palace where Wilfried Zaha pulled off a pretty decent show and left the Reds guilty as charged of a pedestrian display.

This will be an exciting contest given the contrasting forms of both the sides in the recent times and yet an entertaining outing can be expected given the shuffles in fortunes that both Manchester United and Liverpool are to come to terms with.

MUN vs LIV Captaincy picks:

Mohammed Salah has been in imperious form against Manchester United in the last couple of encounters. Despite Liverpool’s shaky start to the season and Salah’s profligacy, he would continue to be the heart of the driving force for the Reds.

A lot of flak has been imposed upon Cristiano Ronaldo but once again, you cannot simply allow him an iota of space in the attacking third or the consequences are known. He would definitely be a decent captaincy pick as the two English powerhouses collide.

MUN vs LIV: Who will win?

Liverpool are the absolute favourites to win this contest, given the dynamic attacking prowess that they come to this contest with. Manchester is expected to put up a fight but with the kind of players they have now, it is very hard to challenge Klopp.
