The Thomas Cup is underway right now in Bangkok right now. It is a team badminton event for the male players, and for the first time in the tournament’s long history, India has qualified for the final of the competition. Earlier this week, the Indian team made history by qualifying for the semifinals as they secured a medal for the country.
Celebrities from across the nation lauded their efforts. Earlier today, before the semifinal match between India and Denmark, Chirag Shetty sent a message to the Indian community living in Bangkok on Twitter.
Here’s what Shetty wrote in his message:
“To the Indian Community in Bangkok. If you can then please do come to support us in the stadium tomorrow for our Thomas Cup Semi finals against Denmark. We need it more than ever! Let’s create history.”
Famous Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle took note of that message and replied to Chirag as follows:
Cheering for you from here. You guys are fantastic. And yes, supporters in Bangkok, do land up. https://t.co/b46iG35Fzv

Twitter reacts as India registers famous win in Thomas Cup to qualify for the final
Kidambi Srikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty and HS Prannoy won three of the five matches in the semifinal match against Denmark as the Indian team qualified for the final of the mega event. Denmark were the favorites heading into this clash, but Team India stunned them.
Fans should note that this event is a 73-year-old tournament, and to date, India had never reached the final before, while Denmark emerged as the champions in 2016. Previously, India beat Malaysia to qualify for the semifinals, and now they are just one step away from capturing a historic Thomas Cup championship.
The final match will happen on May 15, where the Indian badminton team will lock horns with Indonesia, who beat Japan for a place in the finals. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to India’s 3-2 win over Denmark:
Take a Bow! Absolutely loved watching @srikidambi on the court today!
