IPL 2016 was one of the most interesting editions of the Indian Premier League of all time, as it saw the Sunrisers Hyderbad having a dream run and the Royal Challengers Bangalore reaching very close to their first tournament win but losing out on it in the last mile. So, let us have a look at some really interesting stats from the tournament.

Most Runs in IPL 2016:

The 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League saw the ‘Run Machine’, Virat Kohli tops the batting charts with almost 1000 runs to his name during the course of the tournament. He scored 973 runs in total during the course of the 16 matches that he played and this included the 4 centuries and 7 fifties he scored. Following him on the leader board was David Warner, who scored 848 runs to his name in 17 games.

Another RCB player occupied the 3rd spot in the list. It was AB de Villiers who came in with 687 runs in his account in the 16 matches that he played in. Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir with 501 runs each, occupied the 4th and 5th position, with Shikhar getting an edge over Gautam, due to his overall stats.

Most Wickets in IPL 2016:

One of the best swingers of the ball to have played in the tournament, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was the highest wicket-taker of IPL 2016, as he had taken 23 wickets in 17 matches. Yuzvendra Chahal and Shane Watson of the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 21 and 20 wickets each to their names were the players coming in at number 3 and number 4 spots in the list.

Playing for the now-defunct, Gujarat Lions, Dhawal Kulkarni was the player who came in at the 4th position in the list of the players with most wickets to his name, as he was responsible for sending back 18 batters to the pavilion. The Bangladeshi pace sensation, Mustafizur Rahman, rounded up the top 5 of the leader board with 17 wickets to his name in 16 games.

Most Sixes in IPL 2016:

It should be of no surprise to anyone as Virat Kohli, the Orange Cap holder of the tournament, was also the one with the most number of sixes to his name. He had hit 38 deliveries over the boundary rope. AB de Villiers who is known for hitting sixes, was the one following Kohli, in the six hitters list, as he was just one six shies of Kohli’s tally.

David Warner, with 31 sixes, came in at number 4 in the leader board. The two batting powerhouses from the Caribbean, Chris Gayle, who had 21 sixes to his name and Dwayne Smith with 16 sixes to his name were the next players on the list.

Most Fours in IPL 2016:

David Warner, raced ahead of Virat Kohli when it came to hitting fours in the tournament. In the 2016 edition of the Indian Premier League, Warner, who had scored 848 runs had hit 88 fours in total, and following him closely, with just 5 fours lesser than Warner, was Virat Kohli who had hit 83 fours in total.

At number 3 was AB de Villiers, who had hit a considerably less amount of fours, with his tally reaching just 57 fours. Gautam Gambhir tied again in the leader board, as here his tally of 54 fours was matched by Ajinkya Rahane, both of whom had 54 fours to their name in total.

Fastest Fifties in IPL 2016:

There were two players holding the record for the fastest half-centuries in IPL 2016. Chris Morris and the tournament’s legend, Keiron Pollard, both hit 17 ball half-centuries, with Morri’s knock coming in against the Gujarat Lions and Pollard wrecking carnage against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

David Warner came in at number 3 with his 21 ball half-century against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. And, following him at number 4 and number 5 were Quinton de Kock who at the time played for the Delhi Daredevils and Krunal Pandya of the Mumbai Indians, both of whom had hit 22 ball half-centuries.
