IPL 2015: Most runs, Most Wickets, Most Sixes, Most Fours and Fastest Fifties

This edition of the tournament saw the now giants of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians grab the title of the Champions of IPL 2015, by defeating the Chennai Super Kings in the finals. The tournament saw a lot of exciting cricketing action and statistics coming in for the enthusiasts. And here’s a look at some such interesting statistics from the tournament.  

Most Runs in IPL 2015:

This edition of the Indian Premier League saw the captain of the Orange Army, the Sunrisers Hyderabad, David Warner take home the Orange Cap with him. The pocket-sized dynamite, as he is called by his fans, smacked as many as 562 runs in the 14 matches he played in. Following him on the list of players was Ajinkya Rahane, who, playing for the Rajasthan Royals hit 540 runs in 14 matches.

Lendl Simmons was slotted in at the number 3 position in the run-getters list of the tournament, having deposited the same number of runs in his bank as Rahane, but with a relatively inferior average, in spite of having played the same number of matches. AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli of the Royal Challengers Bangalore were the players who came in at number 4 and number 5 spot, with 513 and 505 runs to their names in 16 matches.

Most Wickets in IPL 2015:

The bowler who ended up with the most number of wickets to his name in IPL 2015 and the purple cap on his head was Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings, having taken 26 wickets in 17 games. Lasith Malinga who had played 15 matches, followed Bravo on the leader board with 24 wickets to his name.

Yuzvendra Chahal, Ashish Nehra and Mitchell Starc were the players taking up the 3rd, 4th and 5th spots respectively. Chahal had 23 wickets in 15 matches, Nehra had taken 22 wickets in 16 matches and the Australian speedster, Starc ended his run IPL 2015 with 20 wickets to his name in the 13 matches that he had played in.

Most Sixes in IPL 2015:

When it comes to hitting sixes in the Indian Premier League, one of the first names that comes to mind is that of Chris Gayle, who was indeed the one occupying the top spot in the list of players with the most number of sixes to their name in IPL 2015. Gayle in the 14 appearances that he made on the field with the bat hit the ball out of the park on 38 occasions, and the player that was next, his follow teammate in international cricket, Keiron Pollard was lagging by 10 wickets.

Competing closely for the third spot were Virat Kohli and Brendon McCullum, who had hit 23 sixes, as the latter inched ahead of Kohli thanks to his better strike rate and the fact that he had played a lesser number of matches. With just one six less than the two, AB de Villiers came into the 5th spot.

Most Fours in IPL 2015:

David Warner again hit the top spot when it came to hitting the ball to the boundary along the ground. The Orange Cap holder of the tournament, Warner hit a total of 65 boundaries in the 14 matches that he played in. AB de Villiers came in next on the list with 60 fours in 16 matches, and occupying the 3rd position in the leader board was Lendl Simmons of the Mumbai Indians with 56 fours to his name.

Ajinkya Rahane and Dwayne Smith were in close contention for the 4th position, but it was Rahane who inched ahead of Smith to claim the 5th position. He had hit 53 fours in 14 matches and Smith had hit 52 of those in 16 games.

Fastest Fifties in IPL 2015:

IPL 2015 saw two fifties being scored in as less as 19 balls thanks to the two most unassuming entrants in the list, Harbhajan Singh and Andre Russell. Harbhajan hit his half-century in a match against the Kings XI Punjab and Andre Russell too chose the same side to wreak havoc against.  

While batting against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings, David Warner and his teammate, Moises Henriques hit 20 ball fifties, registering their names in. Keiron Pollard was in at number 5, thanks to his 21 ball tsunami against the Chennai Super Kings.
