IPL 2010: Most runs, Most Wickets, Most Sixes, Most Fours and Fastest Fifties

After the 2009 season of the Indian Premier League concluded, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, decided to bring the tournament back home, bringing a lot of innovations like YouTube-live-streaming and 3D screening of matches in theatres along. And, what a delight it was to watch the players play during its course, in ways that had never been done before. It seemed as if the tournament is ageing like fine wine, as it kept on getting better year after year. So, let us have a look at some interesting statistics from IPL 2010.

Most Runs in IPL 2010:

The ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar got the best chance to score mountains of runs, and he took full advantage of it in IPL 2010. He scored 618 runs in total in 15 matches where he maintained an average of 47.53. Jacques Kallis, another legendary cricket player, was the second player in the top run getter’s list with 572 runs to his name in 16 matches.

Suresh Raina, who had started to consolidate his position as ‘Mr IPL’ came in at the 3rd spot with 520 runs in 16 matches, contributing to his team’s tournament win. Sourav Ganguly had a sort of breakthrough season in IPL, as he managed to grab the 4th spot in the list as he managed to get to his name, 493 runs in 14 matches. The Chennai Super Kings opener, Murali Vijay was the 5th player on the list, as he had managed to get 458 runs in 15 matches of the tournament.

Most Wickets in IPL 2010:

When it came to tormenting the batsmen in the pitch and taking wickets, it was Pragyan Ojha of the Deccan Chargers, who held the top spot. With 21 wickets in 16 matches, he was the one who grabbed the Purple Cap that year. The next bowler on the leader-board, Anil Kumble, was behind a margin of 4 wickets, having played the same number of games.

Continuing the spinner domination in this list of the highest wicket-takers of the tournament that season, were Amit Mishra and Harbhajan Singh who were the ones occupying the 3rd and 4th spots with 17 wickets apiece in 14 and 15 matches respectively. Rounding off the top 5 with 16 scalps in 14 games was Vinay Kumar, who had played in 14 matches that season.

Most Sixes in IPL 2010:

Many may be surprised to know, but in IPL 2010, it was Robin Uthappa, playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who struck the most number of sixes that season. In the 16 matches that he was a part of, he sent the ball sailing over the fence on 27 occasions. And with a difference of a single match and a single six, was Murali Vijay who came in second.

The big hitter of the ball who has been known to use his brute force as his style of play, Yusuf Pathan was the player with the 3rd highest number of sixes to his name. He hit 24 sixes in 14 matches. Playing 16 matches each and hitting 22 and 18 sixes in the process were Suresh Raina and Saurabh Tiwary, who held the 4th and 5th positions respectively.

Most Fours in IPL 2010:

Sending the most number of balls racing to the fence over the course of IPL 2010 was the gentleman named Sachin Tendulkar, of the Mumbai Indians who was also the highest run-getter that season. Sachin hit 86 fours that season over the course of 15 matches and set the bar high. The next person on the list, Jacques Kallis, managed to hit only 67 fours in 16 matches.

Sourav Ganguly was the player with the 3rd most number of fours to his name as he hit 58 fours while batting in the 14 matches that he got to play in. Mahela Jayawardene and his teammate, Kumar Sangakkara were the next entrants with 55 and 47 fours to their names in the 13 matches that they played in.

Fastest Fifties in IPL 2010:

Robin Uthappa was again at the helm of affairs as he managed to get to a half-century in just 19 deliveries while batting for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their match against the erstwhile Kings XI Punjab.

Yusuf Pathan, Virender Sehwag, and Shane Watson with their 21 ball fifties came in at the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions in the list of the players with the fastest fifties in IPL 2010. The only difference in their tally were the number of runs they scored in those innings and that is what differentiated each of them. Virender Sehwag made another entry at the 5th position as against the Chennai Super Kings he hit a 22 ball half-century, en route to his score of 74 runs.
