Chris Woakes is someone who keeps getting better with every game he plays – Ra Ashwin on Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes was the shining light for England in the recently concluded Ashes 2023. He missed the first two games due to injury but made a staggering return in the third game and helped England stage a remarkable comeback in that match.

He played a vital role for England in the last three games and was one of the main reasons behind the hosts making a comeback in the series after being 2-0 down. Chris Woakes played valuable knocks with the bat as well.

Chris Woakes was awarded Player of the Series as he picked 19 wickets in three matches. He also picked a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul as well. It’s fair to say that he made a great impact in the series and without his contribution England’s win wouldn’t have been possible.

R Ashwin said if Chris Woakes was born in some other country, he would have been one of the top three names in the playing 11. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

“He (Chris Woakes) is someone who keeps getting better with every game he plays. I still can’t understand how he is still not a regular in this England Test XI. If he was born in any other country, barring injuries, he would have been one of the top three names in the playing XI.”

R Ashwin further touted Chris Woakes as a natural athlete and said that he feels jealous of him whenever he watches. He added:

“I feel really jealous when I watch him play. He makes it look really easy. He is a natural athlete. If you look at the way he runs, you will feel as if someone trained him how to run a huddle. On the field, once he finishes his spell, he will not remain stiff at all. His bowling action is so natural and his run-up itself is so good, it makes you go.”
