In the last game against Pakistan, Ravi Bishnoi actually had a good match. While the others were going for runs, Bishnoi finished his quota of four overs, giving away only 26 runs and collecting a wicket. Compared to others, it was a brilliant show and hence, many expected him to play against Sri Lanka.
However, Bishnoi was left out and experienced spinner Ashwin has got a chance. As Rohit mentioned at the toss, the main reason for leaving out Bishnoi was to include Ashwin, who would offer many match-ups against Sri Lanka. It is known that Ashwin is very dangerous against left-handed batters. Sri Lanka has three of them in their batting order. Hence, Ashwin was preferred ahead of Bishnoi.
India needs to strike balance in the spin department

Meanwhile, the time has come for India to strike a balance in the spin unit. Yuzvendra Chahal has been inconsistent while the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and R Ashwin have not been able to string consistent performances.
Ravi Bishnoi has done well but he has not got chances frequently. Therefore, it is necessary that there is work put into this department. Maybe, India must try to find players in the mould of Rashid Khan, who can impact matches single-handedly.
