Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill to parallelly compete for the top spot in the most runs scored in T20Is list

29th July will be an interesting day for the fans of the game. Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill will compete together for the top spot in the most runs scored in the T20Is list. Although there is healthy competition for the top spot, usually, we don’t witness the race on the same day. However, that will be happening this Friday.

Most runs scored in T20Is

For a very long time, it was New Zealand’s Martin Guptill who was at the top of the list. Aaron Finch was also amongst the leaders then. However, after the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli started to find their form, it was hard to stop them. Virat zoomed past many to become the top scorer while Rohit was close on his heels.

However, Virat‘s form has not been great recently, and is not a strong contender for the No.1 spot. Guptill has started scoring consistently again and therefore, the Kiwi and the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma are the main candidates for the position.

Although the chart will surely change in the coming months, by the end of Friday, any one of these two cricketers can go on top. While Guptill will take on Scotland in the second T20I, Rohit Sharma will lead India in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. With the Kiwi only 20 runs ahead of Rohit, he is unlikely to hold on to the top spot for a long time because he just has one game for now, while Rohit has five. Nevertheless, the Kiwi can target it going forward.

An important few months for both cricketers

Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill will probably be playing their last T20 World Cup later this year. Hence, it is important for both of them to be in good form.

While Rohit will lead his country, Guptill will be one of the seniormost members of the squad. Therefore, they will be expected to provide good starts to shift the momentum to their respective sides.
