CHI-W vs CN-W: Chile Women will trade tackles against Canada Women at Sapporo Dome on Saturday in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 Women’s football tournament.
Chile faced dominant Great Britain in the first round of the competition. It was a tough team to go up in the first place and Britain proved their reputation right after their emphatic win over Chile. Britain’s Ellen White’s brace kept them in the driver’s seat and handed them a 2-0 win.
While Britain enjoys their victory, a disheartened Chilean side will try their luck against Canada who had a decent start to its Olympics campaign as compared to Chile.
Canada Women played Japan Women in their Group E opening encounter. Canada is known to have struggled with their goal-scoring opportunities but they fared extremely well in this game. Staying in cruise control, Canada opened their account courtesy of captain Christine Sinclair’s sixth-minute goal.
Sinclair converted her rebound from in close after her first shot hit the post. Canada appeared to be in complete control of the game, but Japan’s Manu Yabuchi equalized with six minutes to play and helped the tournament favourites sneak in with a draw first up.
Canada has seemed determined and look like favourites for the upcoming encounter.
