SWE-W vs CN-W: After a revolutionary last month for Canada, they will now be playing their first competitive Olympic Final. They will face Sweden with an eye on Gold.
Sweden was up against the Matildas in the penultimate match of the competition. Right after the whistle blew, both teams went after the ball with hopes to get an early start but failed to convert in the first half.
However, a minute into the second half, Fridolina Rolfo scored a brilliant goal to provide Sweden with the ultimate lead in an all-important encounter.
That goal turned out to be the only & winning goal for Sweden as Matildas failed to create many opportunities and even lost a woman to a red card in added time. With a 1-0 win, Sweden stormed into the Finals.
Meanwhile, Canada was playing the USA Women’s team in their Semi-Final clash. After an aggressive first half, the match was oozing signs of an incoming goal but there wasn’t any eventful move up until a penalty was granted to Canada in the 75th minute.
For Canada, Jessie Fleming took the penalty and was easily converted into a winner. With a 1-0 margin, Canada too walked into their first Olympic Final. It was a memorable day for the team as all their hard work paid off.
Now, there will be a new champion in women’s football at the Olympics.
