One captaincy decision by Rohit Sharma that cost the game for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings

Rohit Sharma is arguably the best captain that IPL has seen, considering he has won five trophies. However, in recent years, he has not had great resources and hence, he is failing at times. Against PBKS, MI had the game in control but lost the match in the end. Here, we take a look at one captaincy decision by Rohit Sharma that cost the game for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings.

One captaincy decision by Rohit Sharma which led to Mumbai Indians losing control of the game

Arjun Tendulkar has, so far, been used mostly in the powerplay by Mumbai Indians. He has been disciplined and also has picked up a few wickets. His bowling attributes suit well for the first few overs when the ball is moving. It also needs to be noted that Arjun has a good yorker at his disposal.

However, referring to the game context, PBKS was looking at quick runs and hence, ideally, since Arjun has not been exposed to such a situation, he may not have been the right bowler. He gave away 31 runs in one over and that gave the momentum to PBKS. In the end, Punjab scored more than 200 runs and this was sufficient for the team to defend in the second inning.

The franchise could re-look at the bowling attack

Although Arjun Tendulkar has done well, it would be best if Mumbai uses a more seasoned campaigner in the playing XI. Someone like Sandeep Warrier would fit best in the squad since he has played in the IPL before.

In the spin department, Piyush Chawla has stepped up big-time for the franchise. However, the likes of Hrithik Shokeen have not been greatly impressive. MI is also not making use of the bowling services of Tim David and Tilak Varma. A change in this category will also help the squad in the tournament.
