“Captaincy is 70% about acting, I have told Babar Azam to do acting on the field,” Ramiz Raja reveals his leadership advice to Babar Azam

Babar Azam is currently the captain of Pakistan cricket team in all three formats of the game

Ramiz Raja, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reckons that captaincy is a lot about acting on the field and he has told the Pakistan captain Babar Azam to act well on the field while he leads the Pakistan cricket team in any format.

According to Ramiz Raja, who was speaking at an event in Pakistan, there is no captain in the world who doesn’t feel the pressure during matches. Everyone feels it, but some captains are very good at acting. They don’t show any pressure that they are feeling.

Ramiz is of the view that it’s very important for a captain to act and not show pressure even if he is feeling the pressure, because the other players of the team always look up to the captain when the team is in trouble. If the captain shows pressure, it rubs onto the other players.

On the flip side, if the captain is relaxed and seems to be in control, that also rubs onto the players and they feel as if they can turn things around in any situation.

Babar Azam is always smiling these days even if the team is not playing well: Ramiz Raja

Ramiz Raja said if one notices Babar Azam on the ground these days, he is always smiling even when the team is not in a great position and that’s because he has told Babar that captaincy is about acting and he has to act even if he is feeling otherwise.

Babar Azam, in his captaincy stint so far, has managed to win 2 out of 3 games against arch rivals India, but Pakistan has lost quite a few series under him against the other teams, not just away from home, but at home too. Currently Pakistan are participating in a tri-series in New Zealand where they lost against the Kiwis by 9 wickets today.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
