In the 2011 ODI World Cup, India was one of the hosts. The nation will be the sole host of the 2023 ODI World Cup. Between the two editions, a lot has changed in the game of cricket. Especially with respect to the emergence of the T20 format, the changes have been revolutionary. Interestingly, a few individuals who were Head Coach back in 2011 are now coaching one of the IPL teams. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two Head Coaches in the 2011 World Cup who are now Head Coaches in IPL.
1) Andy Flower – England and Royal Challengers Bangalore
The association of Andy Flower with the England Team goes a long way back. He was one of the instrumental figures in the resurrection of English cricket when everything seemed going downhill. After he ended his stint with England, he has been a successful T20 coach.
Now, the biggest assignment in Andy Flower’s career as a T20 coach will be as the Head Coach of RCB. The franchise is yet to win a trophy in the competition. The team is also not exactly balanced. Hence, it will be interesting how Flower will coach them in the next campaign.
2) Trevor Bayliss – Sri Lanka and Punjab Kings
Trevor Bayliss is one of the Head Coaches in the 2011 World Cup who is now a Head Coach in IPL. Bayliss did not play a lot of cricket but he happens to be one of the best tacticians as a coach right now. He has won plenty of trophies and that is proof of his philosophy.
In the 2011 ODI World Cup, he was the Head Coach of Sri Lanka. The team lost by a fine margin in the finals. Nevertheless, Bayliss helped England win the title in 2019. Punjab Kings will hope that this magical touch will help them win their first trophy soon.
