The fourth Test between India and Australia ended in a draw at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the first three games of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series ended within three days, the fourth Test was stretched to the final day.
However, as it turned out, the Ahmedabad Test ended in a draw as India won the BGT series by 2-1. Moreover, India also retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy for a record fourth-straight time.
After the series, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were adjudged the men of the series. Ravi Ashwin took 25 wickets and scored 86 runs in this BGT series whereas Ravindra Jadeja took 22 wickets and scored 135 runs.
Axar Patel should have received the man of the series award for his performances
India’s bowling all-rounder Axar Patel might not have weaved the magic with the ball in the just-concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy series. However, he let his bat do the talking in crucial phases of the game.
Axar Patel played impactful knocks in the BGT series and sadly he didn’t get the credit he deserves. He scored a pivotal 84 in the first innings of the Nagpur Test including 10 boundaries and a six. India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs.
During the second Test match, when India slipped early in the first innings, it was Axar Patel who courageously took Australia’s bowling attack to the cleaners by playing quite sensibly.
He was the pick of the batters for India in the first innings of the Delhi Test where he scored a resilient 74 with the help of nine boundaries and three sixes to his name. Had it not been for his knock, India would have lost this game. India won the second Test by six wickets.
Axar Patel remained unbeaten on 12 and 15 in the first and second innings of the third Test match in Indore. Coming to the fourth Test match, Axar Patel scored his third fifty of this series by scoring 79 including 5 fours and 4 sixes.
