India will go to elections in 2024. As seen in the past, there could be issues with respect to security in conducting IPL. Therefore, the event could be shifted to a different region. It will be a challenge for the organizers from a commercial perspective. It was only in IPL 2023 that the league returned to its original home-and-away format. Nevertheless, here, we take a look at three nations that can host IPL 2024 if moved out of India due to General Elections.
1) United Arab Emirates
UAE has been the go-to option for BCCI whenever IPL has not been possible to happen in India. When COVID-19 was at its peak, BCCI resorted to the Arab nations and the decision was a success.
From a time zone perspective, as well, UAE does not offer a lot of challenges. Therefore, this region would be ideal to host IPL 2024.
2) South Africa
South Africa is one of the nations that can host IPL 2024 if moved out of India due to General Elections. The second season of IPL was held in South Africa. The event was a major success.
SA20 also has a few IPL team owners operating the franchises. If IPL 2024 happens in South Africa, it would be a good marketing tactic to promote SA20, as well. That aside, it is not a major issue when it comes to the time-zone. The stadiums are also good to host a big event.
3) England
England would be an interesting choice to host IPL 2024. From a cricketing perspective, it would add a lot of context to the quality of entertainment. The aesthetics involved with the beautiful stadiums would also add value.
However, India is ahead by UK by 5 hours and 30 minutes. This could be a concern because then, matches will have to start early in England. This could have an impact on the visual appeal and the attendance in the stadiums.
