‘I Was Prepared For This’-Cheteshwar Pujara Talks About His Comeback To The Indian Test Team

Cheteshwar Pujara, a batter for India, recently gave an interview in which he discussed his return to the Indian national squad after a dry spell in test cricket. The right-handed batsman notched his most recent Test century in 2019, and before that, he had been struggling to make an impression with the bat. As a direct consequence of this, he was taken out of the national team along with several other prominent Indian players, including Ajinkya Rahane and Ishant Sharma, amongst others.

After being released from the Indian national team, Pujara went on to compete in domestic cricket to get his game back in shape. This year, in both the Ranji Trophy and the County Championship, the batter had an outstanding performance. In the Indian domestic circuit, he played in the Ranji Trophy, where he achieved two fifty-point scores. But when he was competing for Sussex in the County Championship, he came back to form.

The 34-year-old had some really impressive batting form and hit four hundreds, of which he turned two of them into double centuries.

“Playing in a large number of first-class games was the single most significant thing. When I was playing back home before I joined Sussex, I was already prepared for this,” Pujara said in an interview with BCCI TV.

“During the three matches that I participated in for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy, I was able to find my rhythm and realized that I was doing well. It was all about racking up a high score, and when I did that in the very first game I played after the reset, I realized that everything was back to normal. I was getting the hang of my footwork, and the back lift was developing well,” he went on to say.

“After that, all I wanted to do was enjoy myself throughout the game and do what I could to help the team win. Having a nice time out on the field is the most essential thing that can be done. I adore playing cricket, and I love playing this game, so anytime I am on the field, I want to try and make the most of it,” Pujara added.
