Twitter Reacts As Joe Root Missed A Review By Milliseconds Against Rohit Sharma

After a sloppy display in the opening innings of the third Test match at Lord’s, India was all over the place, with their batting dismantled for a paltry 78. England batted exceptionally well to amass 432 runs in the first innings to secure a monumental lead. Rohit Sharma has once again started building hope for the Indians in the second innings.

The Indian batters have been brilliant, however, in the second innings, with Rohit Sharma posting a decent display. The Hitman has so far 41 runs from 121 deliveries, and he has been aptly accompanied by Cheteshwar Pujara at the other end.

It was in the 32^nd over when Sharma was batting on 39 and an intense drama unfolded with the English players losing track of time. Ollie Robinson bowled four good deliveries on a trot, setting up Sharma for a drive. The following ball from the express bowler was full and launched onto the pads before the Indian opener could block it.

The players went up in a loud appeal in unison, hoping that the umpire would actually succumb to the intensity. Sadly, for them, the umpire did not budge and Joe Root, torn between the dilemma of losing a review and going for the wicket of Sharma, opted for DRS half-heartedly, and it was too late as the clock ran out.

India is currently batting at 99 for the loss of 1 with Sharma unbeaten on 52 while Pujara batting on 34. Though the lead is too massive to be covered, the batters have so excelled wondrously. Twitter, however, did not miss the comical part of Root missing out on the timing chip. After all, this has been a rocky ride for the Indian fans and every chance at a comical break has seen welcome to them.

I think – though can't be certain – that 12th man Wood told Root about the three reds for the Rohit lbw during that drinks break. Root threw his head back, and Wood then gave him a consoling pat. Don't know whether the third umpire would have said bat first, though…
