7 players who have captained in both IPL and PSL

Pakistan players are not allowed to play in IPL due to political reasons.

Both IPL and PSL are amongst the best leagues going in the world cricket. Considered as the nemesis of each other, Indian Premier League (IPL) vs Pakistan Super League (PSL) debate has become a never-ending topic of discussion. Over the years many fans and pundits have had their different opinions on the same.

7 players who have captained in both IPL and PSL

While Indian players do not play in any foreign leagues, Pakistani players are banned from the IPL. In the inaugural edition, Pakistan cricketers were part of the IPL and a few of them also gained the limelight with their performances. However, due to political tensions between nations, players from Pakistan have missed out in recent years. However, there have been several foreign players who have played in both teams. In this piece, we take look at 7 players who have captained in both IPL and PSL.

Kumar Sangakkara

Kumar Sangakkara is the first player who has captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL. In the Indian league, he captained three teams in Kings XI Punjab, now-defunct Deccan Charges and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He captained 47 matches in the league out of which he won 15 and lost 30. Whereas in PSL, he was captain of Karachi Kings in 10 games, winning 5 and losing 5.

Darren Sammy 

Darren Sammy is another player who has captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL. The former West Indies skipper captained Sunrisers Hyderabad for 4 games in IPL. He won two games as a skipper and lost 2 as well. Whereas in PSL he captained Peshawar Zalmi in 39 games and won the title with them as well. He won 22 games as a skipper and lost only 16 in the Pakistan league.

Brendon McCullum 

Brendon McCullum also has found himself in the list of players who have captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL. In the Indian league, he captained two teams in Kolkata Knight Riders and the now-defunct Gujarat Lions. He didn’t prove out be a good leader as he won only 3 out of 14 games he captained. In PSL, he was the skipper of Lahore Qalandars as he captained them in 18 games, winning 5 and losing 11.

Eoin Morgan 

England’s World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan has also found himself in the elite list of players who have captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL. He was given the leadership role of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. He led the side for 24 games and won 11 out of the team, taking them to the final of the tournament in 2022. On the other hand, in PSL, he captained Karachi Kings for 3 games and won only one game.

JP Duminy 

Former South African player JP Duminy was given the responsibility to captain Delhi Daredevils in the IPL. He was captain of the side in 2016 for 16 matches and won 6 out of them. He then was named captain of Islamabad United in PSL 2018, where he lead the team in two games, winning one and losing one. Thus making him the fifth player who has captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL.

Dwayne Bravo 

Dwayne Bravo is also among the players who have had the privilege to captain teams in both IPL as well as PSL. In the Indian league, he captained Mumbai Indians for one just game in 2010 and lost that. Whereas in PSL as well he captained Lahore  Qalandars for one game and lost that too.

Shane Watson 

Shane Watson is the 7th player who has captained teams in both IPL as well as PSL. The former Australian all-rounder was captain of Rajasthan Royals in the league and also led Royal Challengers Bangalore for a few games. Overall in 24 games as a skipper, he won just 8. Talking about PSL, he was captain of Islamabad United for just 2 games and won 1 out of them.
