From Cody Rhodes’ magical return at WrestleMania to Bray Wyatt’s chilling comeback, 2022 will be remembered for some of the most unforgettable returns we have ever witnessed in WWE. If that wasn’t enough, the company blessed us with John Cena’s return announcement for the final episode of SmackDown in 2022. The trend of Superstars making their WWE return should not stop in the year 2023 as well.
Under Triple H’s rules, we saw a gigantic wave of superstars returning to WWE who were either released from their contracts during the company’s budget cuts or were working for other promotions.
Hunter refused to settle down and expressed to keep on boarding promising talents in WWE. So hopefully we will see more thrilling returns in 2023. Here are the 5 Superstars who could make their shocking return to WWE in 2023.
1. Will The Rock return to WWE in 2023?

The stage is set, opponent is ready, the entire WWE Universe is ready, and fans are just desperately waiting for The Rock to return and turn the dream into reality. The Brahma Bull is heavily rumored to be returning and challenging his real-life cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
The Mega Hollywood star headlining a WrestleMania in California against the top wrestler in WWE will draw huge attention from around the world. WWE will hope to not lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and take fans’ demands into consideration by booking The People’s Champion in a WWE match sooner rather than later.
2. Will CM Punk return to WWE in 2023?
How can we forget the controversial AEW All Out post-media scrum which ended with the suspensions of CM Punk and The Elite group? The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega were freed from their charges, keeping The Best in the World’s termination on hold.
The 44-year-old is reportedly done with the company, which makes his WWE return very much possible. Due to new leadership in WWE, Punk might re-consider going back to the company he left in 2014. There’s no doubt that CM Punk will receive one of the loudest pops if he returns to WWE.
3. Rusev
Another AEW superstar, Miro aka Rusev, is on the shortlist who could make his shocking return to WWE in 2023 after news surfaced on social media about him being unhappy with his booking decisions in AEW.
If things don’t work out between The Bulgarian Brute and Tony Khan, Rusev can ask for his release from the company and we might see Rusev Day back in WWE once again.
4. Matt Cardona
Matt Cardona, famously known as Zack Ryder, joined the independent circuit after getting released from WWE back in 2020. Despite not being under the spotlight of WWE and AEW, Matt has become a prominent name in the pro wrestling industry.
With his real-life partner Chelsea Green expected to be WWE bound soon, Triple H would be thrilled to hire an upgraded version of Zack Ryder to the company. With Royal Rumble around the corner, a Matt Cardona return is looking very imminent.
5. Will Sasha Banks return to WWE in 2023?
Sasha Banks was seeking Becky Lynch type money. She was not offered anywhere near that. WWE said that she’s not seen internally as somebody who would be on top for the next 5 years.

As per the latest rumors, Sasha Banks hasn’t agreed upon a deal with WWE and is expected to join the New Japan Pro-Wrestling company soon.
On one side, WWE is also believed to be secretively working with NJPW. So, The Boss joining NJPW could be a master plan to open forbidden doors between the two companies which will ultimately lead to the return of Sasha Banks to WWE.
