The Indian Premier League, and especially the Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni, has been known to produce players who have gone in to perform well at the highest level. The 2020 season of the tournament also saw many players improve and go on to do well after their stint with the side. Here, we will have a look at the names of 5 such players, who went on to do well after playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020.

1. Ravindra Jadeja

One of the best all-rounders in Indian cricket at the moment, Ravindra Jadeja after the conclusion of the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League, has done well as a player on the field. His only commitments were with the Indian team where he went with the side to Australia and showed what his worth his as an experienced player of the side. He was able to play 3 One Day Internationals, 1 Test and 1 T20I, but his contributions meant a lot for the team.

His run started with the One Day Internationals, where he did not give the best of his performances, but managed to score 125 runs, including a 50, in 3 games and took a single wicket. He then moved on to the T20Is, where we caught the first glimpse of his return to the Australian soil, as he scored a match-winning 44 runs in the one-off game that he played. In Tests, he was a part of the 1st Test, where he scored 57 runs and took 3 wickets, and in the following test, he was injured after the first innings, but he had dealt a fair bit of damage to the Aussies with 28 runs not out and taking 4 wickets for 68 runs.

2. N Jagadeesan

N Jagadeesan’s name is a part of that list of players, who after leaving the Chennai Super Kings camp, where they were under the leadership of a player like MS Dhoni, have shown a lot of improvement in their stats and match-winning abilities. He may not have gotten a lot of matches to play in IPL 2020, but his experience with the legends did help his abilities, as a player in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-21.

He and his team ended at the pole positions, at the end of the tournament, as Tamil Nadu, won the tournament and Jagadeesan contributed heavily with the bat for the team. He was the top run-getter of the tournament, with a total of 364 runs to his name in 8 matches, as he maintained an average of 72.80 and a strike rate of 141.08.

3. Josh Hazlewood

Already an experienced player with a plethora of memorable performances with him, Josh Hazlewood’s run after he played for the Chennai Super Kings, in the 2020 edition of the tournament, to say the least, was exhilarating to see for any cricket fan.

Hosting an Indian team in his country, the pacer racked up wickets after wickets across formats. He played in a total of 4 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 1 T20I, where he managed to pick a total of 23 wickets, with his average resting at 23.82. He took 2 fifers and made sure that whenever he had the ball in hand, the batsmen were out there, alert and looking to get through the havoc that he would wreck on the pitch.

4. Faf du Plessis

The leader of the South African cricket team, has over the years come to be a mainstay of the Chennai Super Kings squad. And, after his run with the side in the year 2020, his game seems to have been going well. Faf du Plessis has been a great player and has managed to get his national team over the finish line more often than not.

After the Indian Premier League, he played one game in the Pakistan Super League, where he scored 31 runs, post which, he went on to fulfilling his national commitments. And, there he made sure his presence was felt, as he scored a 50 in the very first international game he played post IPL and announced his arrival. He played a total of 7 matches after the Indian Premier League last year, where he had managed to score 383 runs, including his highest score of 199 runs, which came against the Pakistan team at their home ground, in December 2020.

5. Shardul Thakur

MS Dhoni has been known to be the captain of the Indian Premier League, who makes sure that after every season of the Indian Premier League, every player of his team, the Chennai Super Kings, especially the Indian players come out to be better individuals. The same is the case with Shardul Thakur, who with each passing season of the IPL, seems to be getting great learnings, helping him evolve as a player.

Post the IPL last year, he got a national call up and went in to play for the Indian team in Australia, and performed well when he was there. He played in 4 Test matches for the Indian team and made his mark when he was there on the field with the side. He took 12 wickets and scored 86 crucial runs, including one match-winning half-century, which turned to be his highest personal score in Test cricket, of 67 runs.
