5 Batsmen with most International Centuries since Virat Kohli’s debut

Virat Kohli who is a global superstar made his international debut way back on 18th August 2008 in an ODI against Sri Lanka at the Dambulla International Stadium. It has been close to 13 years since his debut and he has gone to a different level in these 13 years. Virat Kohli has not only become one of the best batsmen in the world but he is also the Indian captain in all three formats. Virat Kohli’s legacy has bestowed many accolades over the years.

Scoring centuries is one of those things which comes naturally to Virat Kohli and he has scored a lot of international centuries since his debut. Is there any other batsman who has come more international centuries than the Indian captain in this time period? Let’s have a look at the five batsmen with the most international centuries since Virat Kohli’s debut.

5. AB De Villiers – 38 centuries

AB De Villiers who is known as Mr.360 has scored 38 international centuries in this time period. He has a total of 22 Test centuries and 25 ODI centuries but nine of these centuries came before Virat Kohli’s debut. ABD has been one of the most consistent batsmen across formats.

He averages more than 50 in both Tests and ODIs which is a great achievement. ABD also holds the record for the fastest ODI century in just 31 balls against West Indies. The South African great retired from international cricket in 2018 and we won’t be able to see him score more centuries at the international level.

4. Rohit Sharma – 40 centuries

Rohit Sharma started his international career before Virat Kohli in 2007 but he took some time before settling in the Indian team. Sharma started as a middle-order player but then started opening the batting in white-ball cricket in 2013. Rohit Sharma is one of the few Indians who have a century in all three formats.

Rohit has scored 29 ODI centuries, 7 Test centuries, and 4 T20I centuries in the last 13 years. He has started to open in Test cricket and has managed to do it successfully. He will be looking forward to scoring more centuries in the longest format in the next few years.

3. David Warner – 43 centuries

David Warner has been one of the most consistent openers in all three formats in the last 7-8 years. Warner who started his career as a T20 player has managed to score heavily in the longest format. Warner averages close to 50 in the longest format while opening the batting.

Warner has scored 24 Test centuries, 18 ODI centuries, and 1 T20I century since Virat Kohli’s debut. The Australian opener will aim for at least 50 international centuries before he retires from the game.

2. Hashim Amla – 50 centuries

Hashim Amla who started his career way back in 2004 has managed to score 50 international centuries since the Indian captain’s debut. Amla has 28 Test centuries and 27 ODI centuries to his name but five of these came before Kohli made his debut.

Amla averages close to 50 in the ODI format and his Test average was close to 50 but it dropped down to 46.41 towards the end of his career. Amla has been one of the underrated cricketers especially in the ODI format where he doesn’t get enough credit. With 50 international centuries, Hashim Amla is second on the list.

1. Virat Kohli – 70 centuries

Nobody is even close to Virat Kohli as he has scored 20 more centuries than the next best since his debut. The Indian captain has been a machine when it comes to scoring centuries at the international level. Kohli has 43 ODI centuries and 27 ODI centuries to his name.

He doesn’t have a T20I century, but he averages above 50 in all three formats which is a phenomenal achievement. Virat Kohli will be looking to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries and with many Tests coming up he will look to score a lot more Test centuries as well.
