5 Batsmen who took the fewest innings to score 10 IPL fifties

David Warner holds the record for the most IPL Fifties. However, he was not so consistent during the initial phases of his career. Warner took 49 innings to complete his first 10 IPL Fifties. He achieved his 10th fifty against KKR in Raipur during the 2013 season. Since then, Warner has been unstoppable.

However, the matter of fact is 20 batsmen touched the 10 IPL fifties mark before David Warner. It is a bit surprising to see most batsmen did not end with so many fifties as Warner. However, they were quite consistent with the willow in their first few innings. The fastest to 10 IPL fifties is off 21 innings. In this listicle, we will look at the top five batsmen who took the fewest innings to record 10 IPL half-centuries.

5. Jacques Kallis – 36

Jacques Kallis played for KKR and RCB in his career. He started with Bangalore before switching to Kolkata. The South African all-rounder was great in the IPL. He was a consistent batter. His average was excellent.

Although his strike rate was relatively, Kallis took 36 innings only to complete his first 10 fifties. Kallis achieved this record in 2010 IPL. Deccan Chargers were RCB’s opponents in that game. Kallis scored 68 runs for his team. Eventually, he ended with 17 IPL fifties in his career.

4. Chris Gayle also took 36 innings for first 10 IPL Fifties

Another batsman who took 36 innings for 10 IPL fifties is Chris Gayle. The Caribbean star achieved this milestone in 2012. Like Kallis, Gayle has played for KKR and RCB. He won the Orange Cap in 2011 and 2012. So far, he is the only batter with back-to-back Orange Cap wins.

Gayle was in sublime touch during the 2011 season. He continued that form in 2012, scoring 71 runs against Punjab. It was his tenth half-century in the league. Even Michael Hussey took 36 innings to score his first IPL half-centuries. However, Hussey ended his career with lesser fifties than Gayle and Kallis.

3. Kane Williamson – 27

Kane Williamson got a chance to lead SRH in 2018. Unfortunately, David Warner was not allowed to play that year. Williamson led the Orange Army from the front. He had been a part of the team for quite some time. However, he only got consistent opportunities to play when Warner did not play in 2018.

Williamson scored eight fifties in IPL 2018. During his 51-run knock against CSK in Pune, Williamson recorded his tenth half-century. The Kiwi skipper currently has 15 half-centuries. He will be keen to increase that number in 2021. Williamson is the fastest New Zealander to 10 IPL Fifties.

2. Lendl Simmons – 23

A surprising entry on this list is of Lendl Simmons. The Caribbean player has gone unsold in the recent auctions. However, when he got a chance to play, he impressed with his batting. Mumbai Indians signed him in 2014. Simmons stayed with MI till 2017. He played 29 matches in his career.

Simmons took only 23 innings to complete 10 IPL fifties. The right-handed batsman hit his 10th IPL half-century versus Delhi. His score in that knock was 66. After that, Simmons could record only one half-ton. He has been away from the IPL since 2018.

1. Shaun Marsh completed 10 IPL Fifties in 21 innings

Shaun Marsh took the fewest innings to score ten IPL fifties. He was the first player to win the Orange Cap. The fans should note he was an uncapped player then. The southpaw stunned everyone with his consistency. He raced to his 10th fifty in his 21st knock only.

Interestingly, just like Lendl Simmons, Shaun played for one IPL franchise only. The Punjab Kings signed him in 2008. He played ten seasons for them. Since then, he has gone unsold in every IPL Auction. Marsh recorded a total of 20 fifties for Punjab.
