Team India have been a phenomenal force when it comes to the longest format of the game. The opposition teams often felt really tough to churn out a positive result on Indian soil.
The fact that India lost only two Tests in the last decade goes to show their surreal dominance in red-ball cricket. Apart from those two defeats, they were clinically and tactically perfect across all aspects of the game.
However, at times, they were a bit sloppy, thus leading to a miserable batting collapse. Now, in this article, let’s take a glimpse at the three lowest Test totals by Team India at home.
1. 75 against West Indies
Team India are generally known for posting huge totals in home conditions. However, things didn’t work out for them during the Delhi Test against West Indies as India recorded the lowest-ever total at home in 1987.
India were bowled out for just 75 runs. West Indies won the game by 5 wickets. Ever since losing this Test, India haven’t lost a Test match in Delhi for 36 years.
2. 76 against South Africa
India literally struggled to dictate terms against South Africa in a Test match in Ahmedabad in 2008. The hosts were bowled out for a mere 76 runs in the first innings. In response, South Africa posted 494/7 in the first innings.
Proteas played extremely well in the first innings as they had a lead of 418 runs. India tried their maximum best in the second innings but were bowled out for 328 runs and went on to lose the game.
3. 82 against England
In 1977, India recorded their third-lowest total at home as they lost to England in Chennai. It was also India’s lowest-ever total against England at home.
After winning the first two Tests of the series, England travelled all the way to Chennai to play the third Test. During the game, India were handed a target of 283. However, they could muster only 82 runs.
