Rohit Sharma’s returns as a batter have reduced in the recent years in IPL. This is a cause of concern for the Mumbai Indians management. With age catching up, it would be a wise idea for the MI think-tank to ponder on who could replace Rohit in the future. On that note, here, we take a look at three Indians Mumbai Indians could likely target as the replacement opener for Rohit Sharma in future.
Note: We have considered players who could be released before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions.
1) Prithvi Shaw
It could be a risky bet but Prithvi Shaw has the age and skills to realize his full potential. He could make that happen at his home venue in the Wankhede Stadium.
Shaw’s returns have dwindled in the recent times. Delhi Capitals will not able to retain the cricketer. Thus, he would become one of the hot properties at the auction. If Mumbai Indians also release Rohit, they could target Prithvi as his replacement.
2) Angkrish Raghuvanshi
Angkrish Raghuvanshi is one of the players Mumbai Indians could likely target as the replacement opener for Rohit Sharma in future. Hailing from Mumbai, he must be on of the names on the list for Mumbai Indians.
There is immense potential in the young cricketer, who currently plays for KKR. The franchise will not be able to afford him and that could make him available in the auctions. Therefore, there is a chance for Mumbai Indians to sign the 18-year-old.
3) Sameer Rizvi
Sameer Rizvi is more of a middle-order batter. However, we have seen many players in the past make the move to becoming an opener, including that of Rohit Sharma.
Sameer is extremely talented. It is just that it was not his season in IPL 2024. CSK could release the youngster and MI must sign him to groom him as a future opener.
