3 Indian Players Who Might Still Make It To T20 WC Squad

Almost all of the top Indian players are currently playing in the world’s grandest T20 league, the Indian Premier League. The second phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is currently underway in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will end on October 15. Two days later, the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will begin in the UAE and Oman.

The Indian players will be keen to ensure that the Indian cricket team wins the ICC T20 World Cup. BCCI has picked the following 15 Indian players in the squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami. Reserves: Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur.

With IPL 2021 happened in the United Arab Emirates, it is possible that the selectors alter the squad a bit. The following three Indian players still have a chance of making it to the ICC T20 World Cup squad:

1. One of the in-form Indian players: Yuzvendra Chahal

It came as a shock for many cricket fans when the selection committee decided against including Yuzvendra Chahal in the ICC T20 World Cup squad. Chahal has been the number, one spin bowler, for India in T20Is for quite some time. However, the team management preferred Rahul Chahar over him. Chahal did not even get a place in the reserves. Chahal has done well for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the UAE. Thus, it should not be a surprise if he plays for India in ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

2. Shreyas Iyer

The other two players on this list are part of the reserves. Experienced batter Shreyas Iyer received a place in the list of reserves. Iyer has performed brilliantly for the Delhi Capitals. He has looked good in the middle-order. BCCI could think of promoting Iyer to the main squad before the T20 World Cup.

3. Shardul Thakur

Another reserve player to feature on this list is Shardul Thakur. The Chennai Super Kings star has the habit of picking up big wickets. He has the experience of playing in the UAE. Also, he can smash big hits. Thus, Thakur might make it to the main squad.
