2 players who might shockingly miss the Australia squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup

Australia has already dropped a bomb with the exclusion of Marnus Labuscagne for the 2023 ODI World Cup. There could be a few more surprises in the main squad. Here, we take a look at two players who might shockingly miss the Australia squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Before that, here is a look at the prelim squad selected for the event.

Australia’s preliminary World Cup squad: Pat Cummins (C), Sean Abbott, Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner and Adam Zampa

1) Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar is one of the players who might shockingly miss the Australia squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Australia does not need all-rounders. Yes, Ashton Agar is an experienced spinner but there might be a solid reason behind the selection of Tanveer Sangha.

Tanveer is an impact player and when partnered with Adam Zampa, there could be a good combination on the cards. Australia anyways has the option of finger spin in the form of Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head. That said, it would be a real shock if Agar misses out.

2)Josh Inglis

From the looks of it, Josh Inglis is certain to be selected as the backup wicket-keeper. However, based on Pat Cummins‘ fitness, Australia could include an extra pacer in the setup.

While Alex Carey would start as the first-choice keeper, part-time keeper Travis Head could be his backup. Head would be certain to start in the playing XI and hence, it makes sense to not include an extra keeper. With this option, someone like Nathan Ellis could get a chance in the squad. Having played in India before, he would be a surprise package for the Aussies at the event.
