IPL’s new rule means that Indians who have not played a game for the country in the last five years can be retained as an uncapped player. These players would be retained at just INR 4 Cr. Compared to the cost of other retention slots, retaining an uncapped player is of great value to a team. Teams such as CSK could exercise this option in retaining MS Dhoni. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players who could shockingly be retained as an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Auctions.
1) Mayank Markhande
It was his brilliant show back in IPL 2018 and IPL 2019 for Mumbai Indians that Mayank Markhande got to play for Team India. After 2019, when he played the only game for India, Mayank has not been selected for the country. Since then, he has also not found major success in the IPL.
That said, the 26-year-old is doing well and can be a very good spin option for the side. For a player of his experience, spending INR 4 Cr may not be a big deal. Considering the limited options in this category, he would be a steal. Hence, Sunrisers Hyderabad could consider retaining him.
2) Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma is one of the players who could shockingly be retained as an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Auctions. It is almost a decade since Sandeep played for Team India. Hence, he becomes an automatic choice for the new rule for uncapped cricketers.
In the last two seasons, Sandeep has adapted himself to become an all-phase bowler. Especially at the death, his variations have been accurate and have resulted in wickets. Since Rajasthan Royals do not have other options in the uncapped category, they could, as well, retain Sandeep here.
