Virat Kohli is going through a tough phase in his career at the moment. In the recent T20I series against England, too, the cricketer failed to do well. Amidst this, there is heavy criticism of the player’s current form. Meanwhile, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also talked about Virat Kohli’s place in the T20 WC squad. We take a look at Gavaskar’s opinion about the situation.
Virat Kohli’s place in the T20 WC squad is in danger
Virat Kohli is one of the best T20 cricketers that the game has seen. He averages close to 50 while striking at around 140. In the past, the player has single-handedly won many games for the country. However, the situation is the opposite right now.
Since 2019, Virat has not been able to score a century. In the T20s, Team India needs players who can strike the ball from the word go. Many cricketers such as Deepak Hooda are already doing that. However, Virat is struggling in this aspect. He is also finding it hard to get used to the current all-out aggressive approach in T20Is by Team India. Therefore, a few former players have been questioning his place on the T20 Team. Hence, his place in the 2022 T20 World Cup is in danger right now.
Sunil Gavaskar defends the former India skipper
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, while speaking on Sports Tak, defended Virat Kohli. When asked if he was worried about Virat Kohli’s form, Sunil Gavaskar said that he does not understand why no one talks about Rohit Sharma‘s form when the current Indian captain is going through a rough patch. Talking about Virat’s case, he said, “Class is permanent, form is temporary. I am not too worried about Virat Kohli’s place in T20 World Cup. There are others too who haven’t scored runs.”
Well, with the backing of someone so established, Virat Kohli can take a lot of confidence. India’s next assignment will be the ODI series against England, starting on July 12th.
