“That’s Simple Maths”- Former Champion Slams WWE For ‘Stupid’ Booking Of Damian Priest

Former WWE head writer Vince Russo has expressed his critique of WWE’s creative direction for Damian Priest. The Archer of Infamy notably secured the Money in the Bank contract earlier this year at the eponymous premium live event. However, despite his prominent status on the roster, Priest faced a defeat against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel 2023.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling’s Legion of RAW, Vince Russo deemed the decision to have the Money in the Bank briefcase holder lose a match as “stupid.” He specifically questioned the wisdom of defeating someone holding the coveted Money in the Bank contract.

“Not only that, bro [When asked about Priest not getting a pop]. Who did he wrestle at Crown Jewel? Bro, you can’t beat the guy who has got Money in the Bank. Do you know how stupid that is? You can’t beat the guy who has Money in the Bank, bro. That’s simple maths. That is so stupid, bro.”

What’s next for Damian Priest in WWE?

While the Crown Jewel outcome raised questions about the creative direction of Priest, he secured a victory in his most recent appearance on WWE RAW. He joined forces with Finn Balor to defeat the New Day in a tag team contest. Notably, the duo recently recaptured the WWE Undisputed Tag Team Championship from Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso.

Fans can anticipate an impending rematch between the two teams on the upcoming episode of RAW. Additionally, Damian Priest is set to participate in the WarGames match at this year’s Survivor Series. In this marquee encounter, he will team up with his Judgment Day stablemates and JD McDonagh against a formidable opposing faction comprised of Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins.

Over recent months, WWE has teased the possibility of Damian Priest’s departure from his faction. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer has even speculated about Drew McIntyre potentially stepping into the role vacated by The Punishment within the heel faction.
