ODI and T20I are two different formats. However, in most cases, both these white-ball formats are clubbed together, especially when we talk about captaincy. That said, a few nations have gone in with a different view. They had a different captain around 8 months ago and they will be led by a different candidate in the ongoing T20 World Cup. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two captains in the 2023 ODI World Cup who will not play in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Hashmatullah Shahidi
Hashmatullah Shahidi is one of the captains in the 2023 ODI World Cup who will not play in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Afghanistan did well under his leadership in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Afghans defeated a few top sides and had a good run. If they had defeated Australia, they could have had a chance to enter the Top 4.
Nevertheless, Shahidi is not considered for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Instead, the team will be led by Rashid Khan, who is the T20I skipper. In the middle-order, Afghanistan has batters who are more suited for the T20 format. Hence, it is not a big surprise.
2) Temba Bavuma
For a while now, Bavuma‘s place in the T20I has been questioned. Hence, his absence from the T20I squad for the World Cup is not a shock. It was on the expected lines and the team now has a better combination in place. Aiden Markram is the captain of the side.
When SA20 League started, Bavuma did not even find a bid in the first place. It was only later that he was picked. This shows the popularity he has as a T20 player in the country. Going forward, Bavuma might even lose his ODI captaincy if he does not perform consistently in the ODI format.
