Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs to reach the playoffs of IPL 2024. RCB needed to win with a margin of 18 runs to qualify for the playoffs. They made that possible and thus wrote one of the most memorable comebacks in the history of the Indian Premier League. For CSK, there is a lot to ponder. On that note, here, we take a look at the reason why CSK lost the golden opportunity to qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs.
RCB qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs
With a score of 218 in the first inning, RCB might have got to a decent score. However, they had a margin of 18 runs to save and hence, it was difficult for them. Nevertheless, the bowling attack did their best to ensure that the team was reaching the playoffs.
Credit must go to the fielders and the captain Faf du Plessis, as well, for their fine body language on the field. In the end, Yash Dayal kept his nerve to help RCB cross the line. Now, with six straight wins, RCB, who were on the bottom a few days ago, are now in the Top 4.
A CSK six might have been the reason for the team’s exit
With the rains, there was a lot of issues with the moisture on the field. Hence, the ball was wet. Lockie Ferguson bowled two no-balls for this reason because the ball slipped out of his hand. The other bowlers also spent a lot of time in wiping the ball often. Faf du Plessis requested the umpires to change the ball but that did not happen. It was an advantage for CSK back then.
However, with a 110m six by MS Dhoni in the final over. the umpires were forced to change the ball because the six put the ball out of the stadium. This way, Yash was able to better grip the ball and execute his variations in the last five balls.
That massive Dhoni six may have ironically cost CSK the match, because the ball had to be replaced, and Yash Dayal could bowl his back of the hand balls much better with the drier replacement ball than he could have if the ball was wet.
