The next premium live event after the mother of all shows, WrestleMania 39, is happening in the first week of May. But when exactly is the next WWE PPV? While it may not be WrestleMania, it is a historic event in its own right.
WWE is going back to the country of Puerto Rico in almost two decades on May 6th. Puerto Rico will be hosting WWE Backlash at Coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan.
The last time the global wrestling juggernaut went there was in 2005. Grammy award winner Bad Bunny (real name : Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) will host Backlash, who is also the island nation’s native. Bad Bunny has wrestled previously in WWE and was even involved in the Rey vs Dominik Mysterio match at WrestleMania 39.
On the RAW after Mania show, he got physical with Dominik and Damian Priest as well. He has been in 3 WWE matches and is a thorough WWE fan since childhood. Bunny has even produced a song on Booker T, his favorite childhood superstar.
On which date is WWE next PPV Backlash?
Backlash is not the only show WWE is bringing to the Latin nation. Before the May 6 PLE, WWE will also shoot the live episode of SmackDown, a day before at the same venue.
Triple H, WWE Head of Creative, was asked about Bad Bunny’s participation at Backlash. He had this to say about the Puerto Rican, “I will say this about Bad Bunny. Puerto Rico is coming. If he wants to be in that ring, he’s just gotta, he has my number. We talk. If he wants to be in that ring, he’ll hit me up and I’m sure we’ll make it happen.”
This means the fans there will have someone to represent their country, if Bunny does compete. Who knows, we might even witness WWE’s former Puerto Rican wrestlers like Carlito, Primo and Epico return for one night on the next WWE PPV.
