“Would love to get back in coaching,” Dwayne Bravo opens up on post retirement career

Dwayne Bravo has made it clear that despite retiring from international cricket, he will continue offering his services in franchise cricket around the world including the IPL, till the time his fitness is good enough to go through 40 overs regularly.

Bravo, who is one of the stalwarts in T20 cricket’s history, played his last international game for West Indies yesterday against Australia and unfortunately, it didn’t turn out to be a fairytale ending for the legendary allrounder as West Indies lost the game by 8 wickets.

Bravo himself couldn’t do much himself with the bat or ball as he got out cheaply and then finished with a spell of 4-0-36-0. However, he has left a massive legacy behind in West Indies cricket without a shadow of a doubt.

The 38-year-old said yesterday that he is interested in coaching as well and giving back the knowledge he has acquired over the years to the younger generation whenever his playing days are completely over, but he is hoping to keep plying his trade as a franchise cricketer for a few more years.

“At some point, if I decide to walk away from the game finally, I would love to get back in the coaching department, so I already started to put things in place for when it’s that time,” Bravo said after the game against Australia yesterday.

Dwayne Bravo won two major T20 league titles in 2021

Bravo has had a lot of success in T20 cricket in the last few months as he captained St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to the CPL title in his very first season there, and then he won the IPL title with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

It could have been a hattrick of major titles for Bravo if he had won the T20 World Cup for the third time for West Indies, but it wasn’t to be. The men in maroon, who were tipped one of the favorites to win the tournament, actually lost 4 out of their 5 games and got eliminated from the group round itself.

Bravo, however, can take huge pride in the fact that he is bowing out of international cricket as a two-time T20 World Cup winner.

Abhishek

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
